Backl!:ronnd City staff received an application from Mr. Daniel Reiff expressing interest to serve on either the EDC or the Planning Commission. Mr. Reiff was interviewed by Councilmember David Grant, Planning Commission Chair Clay Larson, and City Planner James Lehnhoff on May 20, 2008 for the vacant position on the Planning Commission. Based upon a recommendation from the interview panel, Mayor Harpstead has nominated Mr. Reiff for the vacant position. For your review, Mr. Reiffs application materials and resume is attached. I know that you previously ran an advertisement for the Economic Development Commission and that you are currently advertising an opening for the Planning Commission. I would like to be considered for a position on one of those commissions because I have lived in Arden Hills for approximately a year and a half, and I believe that it is time for me to get involved with my community. I have long been involved with various areas of government having worked for the county as a prosecutor, the state as a law clerk at the Minnesota Court of Appeals, and the federal government as an intern at the PentagolL Now, I would like offer my services to the city, where I can make a difference in my local community. I am an attorney who specializes in representing businesses with a wide variety of corporate issues and with real estate matters. Most of my clients, though, are small businesses that, while legally are their own entities, for all practical purposes are simply the individuals who own them. As a result, I understa!1.d t.l,e i!npact of various decisions on both businesses and on people. Both inside and outside of work, I am noted as a person who listens to the issues, grasps them, and then works collegially with the others involved to attempt to make the best decision.
