ORDINANCE NO. 242
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 19-48(a)
OF THE ARDEN HILLS CODE TO DELETE
CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS DAY AS A HOLIDAY AND
TO ADD THE FRIDAY FOLLOWING THANKSGIVING
AS A HOLIDAY
The City Council of the City of Arden Hills ordains:
1. Amendment to Section 19-48(a) of Arden Hills Code
Relating to Holidays. Section 19-48(a) of the Arden Hills Code,
entitled "Holidays", is hereby amended to read as follows:
"(a) The fQllowing shall be official holidays
for all employees of the city subject to the _
provisions of this chapter:
(1) New Year's Day, January 1;
(2) Washington's and Lincoln's Birthday, the
third Monday in February;
(3) Memorial Day, the last Monday in May;
• (4) Independence Day, July 4;
(5) Labor Day, the first Monday in September;
(6) Veteran's Day, November 11;
(7) Thanksgiving Day, the fourth Thursday in
November;
(8) The Friday following Thanksgiving Day, the
fourth Friday in November; and
(9) Christmas Day, December 25.
Provided, when any such holiday shall fall on
Sunday, the following day shall be a holiday, and
when such holiday shall fall on Saturday, the
preceding day shall be a holiday. In addition to
the foregoing holidays, all employees shall be
required to work only one-half (1/2) of the last
working days before the Christmas and New Year's
holidays which half days shall likewise be deemed
holidays. Employees shall observe the days and
half days herein designated as official holidays
and receive compensation as though they had worked
on those days or half days, but essential
operations shall be maintained by such skeleton
crews as the clerk-administrator deems necessary.
An employee working on a holiday shall receive his
regular pay in addition to the holiday compensation
hereinafter given."
2. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall be effective
from and after its adoption by the Arden Hills City Council and
publication in the New Brighton BuZletin.
