MEMORANDUM DATE: December 8, 2008 TO: Ron Moorse, City Administrator Honorable Mayor and City Council Members FROM: Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager",m([J SUBJECT: Resolution No. 2008-57: Appointing Harold Peterson to serve on the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Committee for a term expiring December 31,2010. Back!!round The City Council officially accepted the resignation of Joani Werner from the Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee (PTRC) at the Regular City Council Meeting on October 13, 2008. As the committee guidelines state, the appointee to this vacant position will assume the term that Joani Werner was serving. She was serving a three year term that began in January, 2008. Therefore, she has just over two years remaining on her term. During the process in 2007, five individuals were interviewed for two openings. There are two remaining applicants from that process: Mr. Charles Kachel and Mr. Harold Peterson. The City informed these individuals that an opening exists and asked them if they would be interested in being considered for the opening. After contacting these individuals, Mr. Harold Peterson informed staff that he is still interested in serving on the Committee. Mr. Charles Kachel has, at this point, declined to be considered. Staff met with Mr. Peterson to review the Committee expectations and the commitment involved. Mr. Peterson has been through the interview process and has reemphasized his interest in serving on the Committee. It is staff s recommendation that he be appointed to the PTRC to replace Joani Werner. This will leave three remaining vacancies on the Committee. However, there is also one current member, Steve Zilmer whose schedule has caused him to miss the past three meetings. Staff contacted him to discuss his status and he stated that he will need to resign due to his busy schedule. Staff has requested an official resignation letter from him but has not received one as of yet. This would open up a fourth committee vacancy. Staff will officially bring that resignation forward once it has been received. The City recently advertised for the committee openings in the local paper and posted it on the website. We currently have four applicants and interviews have been set up for this week and next with a panel that includes the current PTRC Chair - John Peck, Staff Liaison, and Council Liaison.
