TO:
Mayor and City Council
Ron Moorse, City Administrator
FROM:
Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager
SUBJECT:
Safe Routes to School Project Donation
BACKGROUND
At the City Council Work Session on March 19, 2009, staffpresented the Safe Routes to School
Project cost analysis. Council directed staff to work on finding cost savings within the project.
During this process, Michelle Olson and James Lehnhoff approached Daniel Riehle from Boston
Scientific regarding a possible donation toward the Safe Routes to School Project. Daniel Riehle
from Boston Scientific researched the possibilities and informed the City that they would like to
make a donation of $10,000. The only stipulation given regarding the donation is that it would
be utilized for the Safe Routes to School Program.
Staff extends their appreciation to Boston Scientific for their generous donation. The Safe
Routes to School Project is tentatively scheduled for construction sometime in the spring of
2010. Staffwill keep Boston Scientific updated on the progress of the project and will invite
them to any ground breaking that may occur.
