MEMORANDUM DATE: February 8, 2010 Item LB TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members FROM: Sue Iverson, Finance Director/Treasurer SUBJECT: City Administrator Recruitment BackLyround The City contracted with Richard Fursman of The Brimeyer Group to search for a City Administrator. Discussion Mr. Fursman would like to meet with the Council to answer any questions and ensure that we are all on the same page. He anticipates talking about: travel allowances (if any) for those interviewing, answer process questions regarding the interview days (how does the dinner work, etc.), and give an update on the recruiting. The progress report is tentatively scheduled for March 1 St; however, I have contacted him to change the date to March 8tn I have attached the "mock" itinerary for March 26 and 27, as well as a copy of the original proposal for the services for your reference. Also a chance for staff and department heads to meet and greet. Council can appear here too if they like) • 5:30 Council has dinner with Candidates (Candidates spouses/partners are invited) (Council can also bring spouses/partners) Consultant will rotate candidates around so everyone will have a chance to mix. • 7:30 Adjourn for evening Saturday, March 27 • 8:15 Check-in with Consultant • 8:30 Council meets individually with candidates (The Mayor and each council member will be assigned to a room. Each candidate will speak one-on-one with you and then rotate to another room). As a former City Manager I know that this can be an anxious time of transition, especially when the community is in the midst of development pressures.
