SUBJECT: Resolution 2010-29: Supporting the inclusion of pedestrian friendly
infrastructure as part of the Interstate 694/Trunk Highway 51 Improvement

At the May 18, 2010 Parks, Trails, and Recreation Committee (PTRC) Meeting, it was
recommended by motion that the City Council adopt a Resolution supporting the inclusion of
pedestrian friendly infrastructure as part of the interstate 694/Trunk Highway 51 Improvement.
The motion was as follows: The Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee recommend that
MnIDOT incorporate pedestr�an friendly infrastructure as part of the Interstate 694/Trunk
Highway S 1 Improvement Proj ect and encourage the City Council to forward a resolution of
support to Ramsey County and Mn/D�T. The motion passed unanimously.
The PTRC would like the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners to consider a similar

Recommendation
Staff recommends a motion to adopt Resolution 2010-29: Supporting the inclusion of pedestrian
friendly infrastructure as part of the Interstate 694/Trunk Highway 51 Improvement Proj ect.

RESOLUTIUN NO. 2010-029
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE INCLUSION OF PEDESTRIAN FRIENDLY
INFRASTRUCTURE AS A PART OF THE INTERSTATE 694/TRUNK HIGHWAY 51
IMPROVEMENT PROJECT.
WHEREAS, the City of Arden Hills is a community divided by many maj or roads, highways
and railroads;
WHEREAS, these transportation corridors provide excellent regional access and mobility, but
separate people from parks, businesses and neighborhoods;
WHEREAS, trail connections crossing over or under the major highways and railroads are
needed to tie the City together, create a comprehensive system of parks and trails, improve safety
and enhance the feeling of community;
WHEREAS, the City's 2030 Comprehensive Plan illustrates the vision for a comprehensive trail
network;
WHEREAS, the City's 2030 Comprehensive Plan encourages non-motorized transportation and
commuting in and outside of Arden Hills to reduce reliance on motor vehicles and increase
physical activity.
WHEREAS, building this network requires assistance from other agencies such as Mn/DOT and
Ramsey County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Arden Hills supports the inclusion
of pedestrian friendly infrastructure as a part of the Interstate 694/Trunk Highway 51
Improvement Proj ect.
ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARDEN HILLS THIS 24th
DAY OF MAY, 2010.
