Memorandum dated August 9, 2010 from Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager %.� EN HILLS MEMORANDUM DATE: August 4, 2010 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Patrick Klaers, City Administrator FROM: Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager SUBJECT: Appointment of Thomas Mikacevich to the position of Public Works Maintenance Worker Background At the June 14, 2010 City Council Meeting, Joe Mooney was promoted to the Public Works Superintendent position. Also at this meeting, the City Council approved advertising for an eighth Public Works Maintenance Worker. The City recently completed the recruitment and selection process for this vacant position. The City received 123 applications. Twelve individuals were selected for a first round interview. These interviews were conducted by Joe Mooney, Michelle Olson and Jeff Frid. Three candidates were selected for a second interview. The second interviews were conducted by Joe Mooney, Michelle Olson, Terry Maurer and Scott Freyberger. After completing the interviews, the top candidate was determined to be Thomas Mikacevich. Thomas has an AAS degree in Horticulture -- Landscape Technology, currently holds a category A and E Minnesota Commercial Pesticide Applicator License, and completed a course for automotive technicians. Thomas currently works for Precision Landscaping �ompany, where he leads a daily crew of two to four employees working on residential properties completing tasks such as: mowing, horticultural pruning of trees and shrubs, spraying pesticides on sites for weed control, snow plowing and salting, bobcat operating and performing general truck, plow and mower repairs and maintenance. Staff contacted Thomas' current employer and checked references, with positive results. A successful criminal background check has been completed.
