MEMO
TO: Parks & Recreation Committee
FROM: Kim Stephan
DATE: December 29, 2011
SUBJECT: Updates
2010 8K Run
City Council approved the following motion at the December 8, 2011 City Council meeting.
Motion was made by Committee Member Peterson, seconded by Committee Member Haiden to
request City Council approve the expenditure not to exceed $100 for hosting and maintaining the
website centervillemn8K.com All in favor. Motion carried unanimously.
Ms. Teresa Bender, City Clerk had discussed sponsoring the 8K Race with Mr. Mark Larson, Dead Broke
Saddle Club. Dead Broke Saddle Club donated $350 towards the event, but because of their Charitable
Gambling status they cannot actually be a sponsor, the funds are intended to help the community organize a
health related event which benefits the community.
PA System, Ordering
Email correspondence from Mr. Tom Lee December 6, 2010:
I stopped in today to meet with Dallas to order the P.A. and the sale ended last week sometime, so the cost is
back up to $2,400.
The representative I spoke with at Musician's Friend said the package will probably go back on sale again in
the next month or two, so we did NOT order anything just yet. The only comparable equipment was either
junk brands or way out of the budget. The quality equipment still within budget is "undersized" for the
intended use.
I will be VIGILANT in watching the site, should it go on sale again, I'll be ALL over it. (I'll secure it with
my credit card, and then just transfer the billing to the city.) If by March it doesn't go on sale again, I'll re-
visit with P &R to come up with plan B.
Once the city has possession of the system, I will make myself available to set it up, test it out, BEGIN
training any interested parties on its use and maintenance. I suspect that it will take a few uses before any of
the members will be familiar enough to run it by themselves. Please pass this information (with my
apologies) onto the P &R members for me.
