`0 t
TO: Parks & Recreation Committee
FROM: Kim Stephan
DATE: March 31, 2011
SUBJECT: 2011 Trail Project
Following the March 2, 2011 committee meeting Mr. Paul Palzer, Public Works Director requested a
detailed list of the committee's concerns so he could address them directly.
Committee Member Haiden replied: Please tell Paul that I personally, do not have specific concerns. I
and the rest of the committee do however; want to have a two way communication with the person
representing Centerville (Greg) to the contractors. This is to make sure that we all understand the vision and
find out the details of the project.
No other committee member responded with concerns.
On Mar 10, 2011, at 12:18 PM, Paul Palzer wrote:
I and my staff will keep the Park & Recreation Committee up to date on the project as it progresses. This
project is different from the Hidden Springs project in that Federal dollars are involved and we will be
following the plans precisely as any change order would be very expensive and could potentially jeopardize
the funding for the project. If the committee has a specific concern, please forward any concerns to me. I
will keep the committee informed when the preconstruction meeting will take place in April. As I stated at
the Council meeting last night, no contact or work has taken place since our preliminary meeting in
December for a utility precon to make sure we did not have any outstanding issues that needed to be
addressed over the winter period. We look forward to working with all stake holders of the project and will
strive to make it a great project like the street reconstruction project was in 2009. Again, please feel free to
contact me if you have any concerns. Thanks, Paul
Email Update from Committee Member Seeley:
I had an opportunity to talk with both Dallas and Paul on March 31, 2011 regarding some of the concerns
from the Park Committee's perspective on the upcoming Trail Project.
I mentioned the one concern that seems to come up most often at committee meetings is that we (the City,
the Park Committee, Bonestroo, Veit) all have the same understanding of what "fountain ready" looks like
for the Cornerstone Park.
Another concern that I have heard (and expressed to Dallas and Paul) is that we are not paying $30,000 for
landscaping that we could do with volunteer hours.
