.. _ .
TO: Parks & Recreation Committee
FROM: Kim Stephan
DATE: June 30, 2011
SUBJECT: Updates
Lishting of Flagpole at Cornerstone Park
At the June Parks & Recreation Meeting while discussing this project it was assumed that there would be
electric to Cornerstone Park at some time. Mr. Paul Palzer, Public Works Director said this is not the case,
as electric was removed by Council in the packages that were put out for bid, so there will not be electric at
the park at all. Solar lighting may be the best option.
Email correspondence from Mr. Palzer:
i
I did meet with Rob last week and I also had previously provided to him the solar LED lights that are
available to be installed on the pode due to the is ue that there will not be any power to that area for
lighting. Power could possibly come from the cabinet for the street lights, but I have not spent the money to ,
determine if this is possible. I told Rob that if the solar lights were not a possibility and running power to i
the flag also was not possible, I would not want him to buy the lights ahead of time due to issues with proper
UL listings, style and storage.
I asked Mr. Palzer how much the solar lights he suggested to Rob Faust were and he replied: I !
I did provide Rob with a solar light that cost $159.00. Did he share this with the committee? It mounted ',
from below the fl'ag so there would not be a glare or traffic issue. The gold finished ball that needs to be
replaced costs $28.25. Halyards cost $.SO per foot, retainer ring costs $46.35, snap hooks are $6.50 and a
cleat cover box is @244. SO
The cleat box cover could be eliminated if the cleats are mounted higher up on the flag pole so it could not
be easily reached, but the other parts are necessary.
Veteran's Memorial Plaaue Susestion:
Honoring all those who have served & protected our freedom.
