JUN 7 1998
Robert J. I was directed to
the City of Centerville for questions involving mailbox structure maintenance. During a
return call, I was informed that both mailbox and structure maintenance is the
responsibility of the residents who are served by these structures (Ordinance 48 Section
10).
Although many residents, including myself, are more than capable of maintaining these
structures, the questions regarding repair costs, repair types, repair timing, alterations to
the structures, structure appearance, among other concerns remain unanswered. Given the
wide variety of factors governing mailbox structure maintenance, it would seem more
logical to place the burden of mailbox structure maintenance in the hands of the city.
In an effort to standardize this process, and to maintain reasonable control over this issue,
I submit a request to change the ordinance in favor of city directed mailbox structure
maintenance. Allowing the residents to perform maintenance without specific directions,
will ultimately lead to unwanted, incorrect, or aesthetically displeasing structure repairs.
Please accept this request and provide me with your decision. f am available to discuss this
matter further if necessary. I can be reached at 612 - 829 -8373 during normal business
hours or after hours at the number indicated above.
Sincerely,
3 -1A
Bob Mlinarchik
