November 3, 1998 <br /> Union Requests and Potential Impacts <br /> 1) Holidays - The Union is requesting the following twelve paid holidays. <br /> New Year's Day <br /> Martin Luther King Day <br /> President's Day <br /> Memorial Day <br /> Fourth of July <br /> Labor Day <br /> Columbus Day <br /> Veteran's Day <br /> Thanksgiving Day <br /> Day After Thanksgiving <br /> Christmas Day <br /> I (one floating holiday) <br /> The most common number of paid holidays is 11. There would be no additional cost to the Citv to implement 1 I <br /> or 12 paid holidays, only lost productivity. <br /> 2) Stand -by Pay <br /> The Union is requesting a per week increase from $121 to $160. The Union is also requesting an increase of $50 <br /> per week for any week with an Employer designated Holiday. <br /> The total cost of this request to the City would be $39 x 52 weeks = $ 2028 <br /> Eleven holidays x $50 /week = $550 <br /> Total Cost $2578 x 12.83% (Payroll expenses) = $2908.75 <br /> 3) Safety Shoes and Work Clothes <br /> Increase shoe allowance to $120. Increase uniform allowance to $300 /year. <br /> Total cost to City = $360. <br /> 4) Insurance <br /> Insurance allowance for employees choosing single or family coverage will be $400.00 per month. <br /> Any excess amount not used for health insurance under the $400.00 flat fee can be used to purchase additional life <br /> insurance or taken as deferred compensation. <br /> The total additional cost of this request just for public works employees would be $3000. If all employees were <br /> granted this allowance the total increased cost to the City would be $12,000. <br />
