Mary Jo Helmbrecht <br /> Laura Powers <br /> STAFF: City Administrator Jim March <br /> City Clerk Ry -Chel Gaustad <br /> Public Works Director/Building Official Paul Palzer <br /> City Engineer Tom Peterson <br /> The City Council met in closed session beginning at 5:00 p.m. Mayor Wilbarber called the <br /> September 23, 1998 Council meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. <br /> PUBLIC HEARING (S) <br /> APPEARANCES <br /> Nladv Reiter- Resolution 98 -22 Approve I irinz Police Chief Joel Heckman <br /> Ms. Mady Reiter (Circle Pines - Lexington Police Department Commission Chairperson) was <br /> present to address the City Council. Moreover, Ms. Reiter thanked the Mayor, Council and City <br /> Adminstrator for attending the 1999 Circle Pines - Lexington Police Department ( CPLPD) budget <br /> meeting. <br /> Ms. Reiter also was present to request the Councils resolution on the recommendation of the <br /> CPLPD Comnussions recommendation to hire Joel Heckman as the Chief of Police. Ms- Reiter <br /> explained the interview process. Foremost, June 30 was the application and supporting <br /> documentation deadline, fourteen applications were received. Next, all applicants were rated and <br /> six candidates had oral interviews. The top two candidates are, Mr. Joel Heckman and Mr. <br /> Robert Makela. Ms. Reiter noted the Commission recommended Mr. Joel Heckman, If selected, <br /> the Commission will begin negotiating a contract with hire date of December 1, 1998. <br /> 1 <br />
