SAMPLE MOTION
I make a motion to adopt the City of Centerville comprehensive
plan subject to the Metropolitan Council review and approval and
contingent upon the addition of one additional housing policy
specifying the desire to reserve a percentage of undeveloped
property for step -up housing.
Note ** This policy would be additional language added as a
bullet to narrative on page 31.
Dean recommends submitting the plan for final approval now. If a
site for senior housing is chosen in the future, Dean indicated
that there is a very simple one page form that needs to be
completed to process a plan amendment. He added that the Met
Council would in no way hesitate to allow an area to be rezoned
from low- medium density to high density for senior housing.
In the coming weeks, Dean would be willing to work with us to
develop a new zoning district and special requirements that could
be adopted in an area that would ensure that at least a
percentage of the remaining land could be reserved for estate
housing.
Dean estimates that we could designate up to 20 -25% of the
remaining property with the lot size requirements of R -5 (17,500
sq. ft.) and still be consistent with our projections for the
Livable Communities Act. Other options would be to opt out of
the LCA or reduce the square footage requirements and still have
the higher specifications for the new zoning district.
