CENTERVILLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE <br /> REGULAR MEETING MINUTES <br /> TUESDAY March 18,1997 <br /> Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the Centerville Economic <br /> Development Committee held their regular scheduled meeting on <br /> February 18, 1997. Acting Chairperson John Magill called the <br /> meeting to order at 7:10 P.M. Present: Dan Tourville, Theresa <br /> Brenner, Paul Montain, Jim March, Mary Capra (7:15 P.M.), Tim <br /> Rehbine (7:20 P.M.) <br /> Appearances <br /> Ken Strantz of Performance Auto - He stated he opened his <br /> business May 1992 and that his business offers full auto repair. <br /> He has employed 1 full -time person plus himself. He is currently <br /> looking for one more full -time personnel with management skills. <br /> He is currently the only mechanic in town. Would like to stay <br /> where he is. He currently has room for expansion when needed but <br /> is fine the way things are for now. He has seen growth in his <br /> business over the years. His only problem he has is with <br /> exposure. He has put out a sign on the corner but feels it is so <br /> cluttered that it is possibly overlooked. The best advertising <br /> is by word of mouth. He would need financial aid to be able to <br /> expand and do it correctly. He is wondering if there are any <br /> types of government financing available to him. He has had a lot <br /> of vandalism in the past but is getting better since he has <br /> installed motion lights, security cameras and alarms. He has <br /> been on Hugo volunteer fire dept for 11 years. 80% of work is <br /> from local residents. Would like to expand and do a quick lube <br /> and tow truck service but would need to hire another person and <br /> expand the building size. He remodeled the inside last year. He <br /> is interested in doing some type of flyer for the welcome <br /> neighbor packet. He would like to see 20th Ave get fired as it <br /> is really getting rough. His main concern would be to get more <br /> exposure. <br /> P.00roval of January 1997 Minutes <br /> Motion by Dan Tourville to approve the February 1997 meeting <br /> minutes, second by John Magill. All in favor. <br /> Star City Goals and Objectives <br /> Welcome Neighbor - City Council has approved the pilot project <br /> for the Welcome Neighbor packets. Now the committee needs to <br /> start contacting businesses. John Magill and Mary Capra will <br /> start and have something set for the next meeting. Theresa <br /> Brenner suggested a cover letter from the Mayor welcoming the <br /> people to community would be a nice touch. <br /> Business Appreciation Dinner - The dinner will be held on May <br /> 20th.
