MOTION by Mayor Wilharber to table the Waterworks issue until the December 10, 1997 <br /> Council meeting. Motion seconded by Councilmember Brenner. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> Councilmember Powers requested the City Attorney be present at the next meeting. <br /> Elementary School Crosswalk <br /> Mr. Bonkowske briefed the Council on the progress on the cost and availability of flashing traffic <br /> signs for the Elementary School Crosswalk. Mr. Bonkowske observed several school zone signs <br /> indicating the school zone. However, flashing lights may prevent any unforseen hazards or <br /> accidents. Mr. Bonkowske suggesting the City purchase flashing traffic signals from Warning <br /> Lites of Minnesota because they are less expensive. However, shipping and handling will take <br /> two to four weeks longer and there may be an installation delay due to the frozen ground. Mr. <br /> Bonkowske commented Officer Gleason noted overhead cross walk signals are becoming <br /> obsolete since people take their eyes off the road to look at the overhead signals. <br /> Councilmember Powers suggested installing the pedestal poles from Warning Lites of Minnesota. <br /> MOTION by Mayor Wilharber to authorize Staff to contact the Police Department, Lino Lakes, <br /> Anoka County, Elementary School and the School Board and receive input fro approval and <br /> perhaps supporting funds. Also, receive an installation estimate from an electrical contractor. <br /> Motion seconded by Councilmember Powers. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> Councilmember Powers said perhaps the Lions will contribute funds toward the installation of the <br /> flashing lights. <br /> Extension of the Internship Tenure <br /> Mr. March explained the internship position expired mid- November. However, the City is <br /> updating the zoning ordinance and matching grants are available with in- kind -labor or matching <br /> funds. Mr. March envisioned Mr. Bonkowske researching serval zoning issues and working on <br /> the drafts. Mr. March requested the intemship position be extended to March 1, 1998. <br /> MOTION by Councilmember Brenner to extend Troy Bonkowske's internship with the City until <br /> March 1, 1998, Motion seconded by Mayor Wilharber. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> 1998 License Renewal <br /> MOTION by Mayor Wilharber too preliminary approve the 1998 licenses submitted contingently <br /> upon Council's final approval. Motion seconded by Councilmember Powers. Motion carried <br /> unanimously. <br /> Alexandria House <br /> Mayor Wilharber briefed the public on the Alexander House which is a 24 -hour nonprofit <br /> 5 <br />
