CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br /> PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION <br /> SEPTEMBER 2, 1997 <br /> Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the Planning and Zoning Commission of the City of <br /> Centerville held their regular meeting and a public hearing on September 2, 1997, at City Hall. <br /> Meeting was called to order by Chairperson Kathy Week at 7:05 p.m. <br /> PRESENT: Chairperson Kathy Welk <br /> Tina Vermeulen <br /> Linda Broussard - Vickers <br /> ABSENT: Al LaMotte <br /> STAFF /CONSULTANTS: City Administrator Jim March <br /> City Clerk Ry -Chel Gaustad <br /> Councilmember Theresa Brenner <br /> OPENING <br /> PUBLIC HEARING (S) <br /> CONSIDERATION TO GRANT SPECIAL USE PERMIT FOR SENIOR FACILITY <br /> Mr. Tom Dillion (Project Coordinator for Dunbar Development Corporation) gave a brief <br /> overview of the proposed Senior Housing Facility. Mr. Dillion explained the facility will house 16 <br /> units consisting of one, two and one bedroom plus den apartments. The covered parking lot will <br /> contain 16 stalls will be available for the cost of $35.00 per month. Outside parking will embody <br /> 16 parking stalls which have been proposed for residents and visitors. Furthermore, the facility <br /> includes keyed security access, natural gas heating, air conditioning, ground maintenance, and <br /> garbage collection. Finally, Mr. Dillion explained each unit will be equipped with patio access, <br /> major appliances and sprinklers for fire protection. <br /> Mr. March explained reasons why the city pursued senior housing. The community was desirous <br /> of a senior housing facility and there was a demand. <br /> Ms. Bekah Padilla (Project Architect for Miller, Hanson, Westerbeck & Berger) explained the <br /> senior housing facility is designed for active seniors. Ms. Padilla described how the facility was <br /> laid out which provided space for a similar facility in the future. Ms. Welk asked if a lot split <br /> between the Barret house and the facility will be required. Mr. March replied the Barret house <br /> may be raised, but a lot split will not be required. Ms. Welk questioned the likelihood of another <br /> housing facility within the same area. Mr. March responded the city plans to see this facility to <br /> completion before addressing another facility. <br /> Ms. Vermeulen asked if the facility will be staffed 24 hours.
