MEMO
DATE : November 21, 1997
TO Honorable Mayor and Council
FROM : Jim March
RE Senior Housing Update
At the last meeting, there were some questions in regards to curb
and gutter and the sprinkler system at Chauncey Barett Gardens.
As you may recall, the curb and gutter was bid as a project
alternate at a price of $16,000. To include the curb and gutter
was an expense the City would incur to have the project meet the
cash flow projections so that the bonds could be issued. The
option that was proposed at that time and supported by the
majority of the Council was adding curb and gutter to the area of
the driveway and parking lot as depicted in the attached
illustration. The cost for this option was $6800, which I
proposed to be paid from the Community Development Block Grant
funds. As you may recall, we had reallocated some of our unused
CDBG funds totalling $15,000 to be used towards the senior
housing project.
The sprinkler system was determined to be an additional $19,800
to sprinkler the attic as required by the Fire Marshall. As
attached in a memo from Tom Dillon (DDC) the net shortfall after
deducting sod /seed labor and material from the project is
currently $9500. Tim Yantos (Anoka County HRA) had proposed
having the County Sentence to Service to do the sod /seed work on
site. Additional cost savings in the development are being
reviewed as a result of the revised grading plan. I have made it
clear at numerous public meetings, that the City of Centerville
will not be required to pay for the sprinkler shortfall. If
anyone has any additional questions in regards to the Senior
Housing project prior to the meeting, please contact me so that I
can bring the information to the meeting. I had a report from
Tom Dillon on Thursday that the project is proceeding on
schedule.
