The presence of the bedrock means that the piles can be driven to <br />refusal into the bedrock and can achieve a 100 ton capacity with a high degree of certainty. <br />The piles will be either concrete filled pipe piles or H-piles. The exact pile configuration <br />and type will be determined during the design phase of the project. There is an additional <br />advantage to the pile foundation in that the ringwall portion of the foundation will extend to <br />only 6-7 feet below grade. It is anticipated that this excavation will be reasonably dry. The <br />inlet/outlet fill pipe will then go just below this ringwall foundation between two of the <br />piles. If the spread footing were to be considered at a 13-14 foot depth, it is anticipated that <br />significantly dewatering costs would be encountered. <br /> <br />Site Size Requirements <br /> <br />The minimum area normally required for maintaining an elevated water tower of this size is <br />approximately 250' x 250'. During construction of the tank, an additional100-foot <br />construction easement is desirable on at least 2 sides (a 350' x 350' square site). This gives <br />the contractor room to centrally store excavation materials and fabricated steel plates around <br />the tower. <br /> <br />This site is approximately 150 feet wide by 300 feet long. Additional space for construction <br />equipment and material storage will be necessary either south or east of the tank site. Future <br />maintenance on the tower, such as repainting would also require either additional space or <br />extra care in containment. <br /> <br />Site Access <br /> <br />~.. Site access is required for tank maintenance and storage inside the tank structure. The <br />existing Public Works driveway will provide an excellent access point for the tower, and <br />eliminate the need for a permit from Anoka County.
