Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />v. A WARDSIPRESENTATIONS/APPEARANCES <br /> <br />1. Centennial Youth Hockey Association - Request for Funding for Schwan's Super <br />Rink Expansion - $16.000 <br /> <br />Council Member Paar arrived at 6:37 p.m. <br /> <br />Ms. Lisa Hockert and Mr. Paul Erickson appeared before Council to provide information <br />on the Schwan's Super Rink Expansion and their request for funds. <br /> <br />Council Member Paar indicated that Park & Recreation met and they would like to do <br />this but the funds are not in their budget to do so. He then said that the Resolution <br />indicated that they are in favor of it coming out of the City's funds. He further said that <br />he is in favor of this and his son does skate. <br /> <br />Council Member Paar asked whether this would restrict other communities from building <br />an ice arena. <br /> <br />Mr. Erickson indicated that this obligation would need to be fulfilled for the 20 years but <br />that does not preclude them from constructing another one if they wished to do so. <br /> <br />Council Member Lee asked for clarification as to whether the ice would be available for <br />public skating. Mr. Erickson indicated there are three sessions and one or two more <br />would be added with the expansion. <br /> <br />Council Member Lee indicated that there seem to be about 60 skaters from Centerville <br />and that is only about 2% of the population but, if the ice is open to the rest of the public, <br />that would make this more appropriate for use of City funds. <br /> <br />Council Member Terway asked whether there would be a resident fee and non-resident <br />fee and asked whether the City's contribution would mean that would be done. <br /> <br />Mr. Erickson indicated he would be willing to go to all members of the consortium to <br />discuss the matter and be open to considering a discount for public skating for members <br />of the consortium. <br /> <br />Mr. Erickson clarified that the initial payment of $16,000 is a one time payment and the <br />potential risk comes if the hours guaranteed are not met. <br /> <br />Council Member Terway indicated that he is in support of this and asked whether the <br />funds are available to support this. <br /> <br />Page 2 of 11 <br /> <br />~ <br />
