Teresa Bender
From: Pat Branch
Sent: Wednesday, August 28, 2013 4:11 PM
To: Teresa Bender
Cc: Ben Fehrenbacher
Subject: Re: Alternative 5 K Course
I agree with you both. I would rather run a circular route rather than an out and back. We will talk about this
at the next P &R meeting, which is why I am drawing course lines in August.
Teresa: Please put this discussion on the agenda.
I know the graphic shows the 5K on 20th Ave. There is a trail along 20th and we will keep the runners on the
trail as they turn off of Center Street. I do not want to approach the PD until we talk about it in committee and
have a firm plan. The police concern that I see is that there would be a 3rd crossing of Centerville Road. We
would have to have at least 3 officers, one at Main, Meadow and where the trail crosses Centerville Rd near the
mayor's house.
Ben: We are going to keep the 8K. We have done it for 5 years and I do not think doing a 7K would impress
many new runners. Unless the committee objects (they won't) we will also keep a 5K. That was pretty popular
this year and may be our best chance for growth.
I do agree that capitalizing on the lake is our trump card. Some other communities also have lakes, but we are
doubly fortunate to have the lake and so much park land.
So a circular or out and back course remains the issue. Thanks to both of you for your ideas. We will see what
happens with P &R.
On Aug 28, 2013, at 2:56 PM, Teresa Bender wrote:
<image001.png>
i
