<br />Demand Forecast <br />Regional parks and trails have been increasing in popularity, and as the population grows <br />the need for additional recreation sources and amenities grow as well. The populations <br />in the City of Centerville and Lino Lakes are anticipated to grow steadily, as is the overall <br />population in Anoka County. <br />1 <br />Population Forecast <br />Anoka <br />Year Centerville Lino Lakes County <br /> <br />2010 4,918 20,216 330,844 <br />2040 5,700 28,000 415,750 <br />According to preliminary Metropolitan Council forecasts for 2040, the metro regional <br /> <br />area is anticipated to grow by 31% between 2010 and 2040 and in the metropolitan area, <br />seniors are expected to equal one-half of the total population growth. As the population <br />increases and ages demand for easily accessible outdoor recreation opportunities and <br />open spaces will increase. <br />The outdoor recreational use patterns in the metropolitan area have also been growing <br />steadily. Recreational visits to Anoka County regional trails have increased from 583,600 <br />2 <br />to just over 870,000 in 2012. <br />In addition, according to the Outdoor Foundation: <br />Outdoor recreation reached the highest participation <br />level in five years. Outdoor recreation added three <br />million participants in 2011 — a significant <br />improvement over the past few years when <br />3 <br />participation either dropped or remained stagnant. <br /> <br />In addition, the Statewide Health Improvement Program <br />(SHIP) is promoting living longer, healthier lives through the <br />reduction in obesity and increased physical activity.
