Teresa Bender
From: Pat Branch
Sent: Sunday, March 30, 201412:27 PM
To: Teresa Bender, Jon Grahek
Cc: Paul Burke
Subject: Re: Upcoming Meeting Packet
Jon, Here are some notes for the April P &R meeting. I will not be there. If you can, please accomplish the
following
1) Top Priority - There is $1039 remaining from the 2013 Parks and Rec segment of the city budget. We need
a motion to ask the City Council to place that money in to a reserve account. I have two ideas for the reserve
account. The Committee should decide which is their priority. My goal is to accomplish both of these
suggestions this year using both budget funds and 8K proceeds.
a) First - A reserve account for Park Utility Improvements- under that title we could pay for the
installation of the park benches we purchased with last years 8K funds. Paul has these benches but we are short
about $500 needed for installation. The rest of the money could be spent on installing water fountains at all the
sports fields and for electrical drops in the LaMotte pavilion.
b) Second suggestion - The money could be put into a reserve account for the basketball court on the
hockey rink. Lino Lakes has a similar basket ball court on one of their hockey rinks - that should be our
model. Brian knows the details.
2) I am concerned about the flag football tournament. My issue is that they have not submitted the Special
User Permit form. We know the dates they are now asking for and they did come to your last meeting. In -spite
of the fact that we do not have their permit form in hand, please press the committee to approve their most
recent request for dates.
The first tournament dates are the weekend of May31 /June 1. We need a motion to recommend to Council to
approve those dates. We will continue to work with the organizers to address the concerns Jeff Paar outlined in
his email note on this subject. Jeffs concerns were all those things that have come up in committee
discussion. He has nicely laid them out in an email note.
3) The Centennial Baseball Boosters Club has a Special Permit request for a run Sept 27th. I have been
exchanging e-mail notes with Mary Adams, one of the organizers. Recommend approval on their
request. Centerville kids go to Centennial Schools. There are no negative impacts. Let's give them our
support.
4) Anoka County is planning a new trail between Centerville and White Bear. I would like to see Centerville
become champions for this proposal. At the same time, I do think there are better routes that they should
follow. I have proposed to everyone that I can think of - that the new trail should go through the future Lino
Lakes Birch Park rather than down Centerville Road. Neither Birch Park nor this new county trail will be built
for several more years. But why plan two trails where there is a need for one. I will forward you my comments
in separate note.
Thanks Jon, See you soon
Pat
1
