Vacant/Foreclosed Home Project: A list has been created, regularly updated and is available
on each squad laptop with owner/bank contact information for vacant or foreclosed properties
within the cities.
Town Home Association Meetings: An officer attends town home association or apartment
complex scheduled meetings. The officer answers questions and addresses resident and
owner/manager concerns related to crime and safety.
Lock Your Car: In response to numerous thefts from vehicles, officers secured funding for
road signs to be posted in neighborhoods reminding residents to lock their car doors. Each
spring officers also hand out flyers in neighborhoods and meet with residents to discuss issues in
the area.
Open Garage Door: While on patrol, officers identify open garage doors and close them. The
officer will leave a "green card" for the resident explaining the action and give them the
opportunity to receive a static cling reminder to close their garage door.
High Snowbanks at Intersections: Many of you recall the winter of 2013 — 2014 when the
snow just did not want to melt. Many intersections became quite dangerous where the snow was
piled so high it was virtually impossible to observe cross traffic without moving into the
intersection. Officers worked with local and county plow crews to get the worst intersections
cleared quickly.
Bar Closing Foot Patrol: Officers conduct foot patrol at different times inside the bar, as well
as the parking lot, encouraging and reminding patrons to have a designated driver. They also
work with employees to identify customers who may have consumed too much and get them a
free ride home.
Daily Visits to Elementary Schools: Officers spend time each day visiting classrooms, reading
to students, and otherwise interacting with children on the playground as well as at school start
or end.
I Got Caught Program: In conjunction with Dairy Queen, officers identify kids following the
rules and laws of bike safety. Officers will talk with the kids and give them a coupon for a free
ice cream cone at DQ.
Snowmobile Project: An officer attends the Rice Creek Trail Association meetings to answer
questions and address issues while also working with the Association to curb citizen complaints.
Business Safety Program: Officers will meet with businesses and work with them on strategies
to lessen the probability of becoming a crime victim. Suggestions range from additional interior
and/or exterior lighting to video surveillance.
While there have been many other noteworthy projects throughout the years, the above listed
programs give you an idea of what officers of the Centennial Lakes Police Department are
committed to on a daily basis outside of responding to 911 calls or addressing traffic issues.
Cenknnia(LR[Ogs Poke 19e(rtmenf 12014 ANNUAL REPORT
