.

"

Northeast Metro Trail Plan

January 7, 2003
Wayne LeBlanc, 651-426-0168

Centerville, Lino Lakes, Hugo, Anoka Parks, Anoka County, Washington County, Ramsey County, and the
surrounding Metro area benefit from. the trail pIan in Figure 1. The trails connect the Hugo trail that will
apparently go to Duluth to other trails connected to the Chain of Lakes Park and south to Otter Lake Park including
a future recreational park at Birch Street and Centerville Road. The trails in and around Centerv.ille are designed to
promote safe pedestrian and bicycle routes to parks, commercial areas, other trails, homes, and places of interest.
In addition, loops in the design enhance t1exib~ and appeal.

The purpose of this pIan is to
coordinate the participating
orwmi7Jltions. Please contact
Wayne LeBlanc.

On Sep 25, 2000, people
representing Centerv.ille, Hugo,
Lino Lakes, Anoka County Parks, St
Paul Water, and Wash~on County
Parks met and agreed to pursue this
pIan.

Considerations for particular areas
are identified with the large letters
and descn'bed below.

Area A: RIIOA to Pedestrian
Bridt!e at 35E
Hugo, Washington County, Lino
Lakes, and Anoka County pIan to
coordinate the route of a trail ftom
the existing. Hugo tri.iJ. to a proposed
pedestrian bridge at Area B, where
3SB and Clearwater Creek intersect.
WIth Hugo's planned recons1mction
of the road :from Area A to Hugo in
the next couple years, the inclusion
Figure 1. Trail Plan of the trail follows natura.1Iy. Th@
urgency here is to include the iran in
forthcnmiTtr develO1)Dlents. Hugo is also looking at providing an attractive trail along Clearwater Creek and at leist
one development has already included it.

Area B: Pedestria:a BrIdtre at 35E
Area B was chosen for a pedestrian bridge to cross 35E bec8use there are plans in Hugo to provide a 1raiI along
Clearwater Creek and becallSC\' it would more easily accommodate pedestrian traffic than at the aUtomobile .
intensive freeway intelchange at 3SB and County Road 14 (Frenchman Road). The urgency here is to control
develo.pment in the SUTl'Oundinr area on both sides of the fteew~ now to provide a route for the pedestrian bridge.
At the meetinr everyone th011ght this appears feasible. A small section.ofIand ~est of3SB to 20" Ave needs to be
coordinated by Lino Lakes, Centerville, and Anoka County. .

1

.'-.-J
