BYOB Ordinance <br /> <br />Council Member Lee indicated it was brought to his attention that it may be legally <br />possible for a business to open without a liquor license by having patrons bring their own <br />bottles and providing setups. <br /> <br />City Attorney Hoeft indicated that is not legal anymore. <br /> <br />vm. ANNOUNCEMENTSIUPDATES <br /> <br />1. Emt>loyee J\Rpreciation Dinner <br /> <br />Mayor Sweeney indicated that this is the last time the employee appreciation dinner will <br />be on the agenda. He then said he had received telephone calls and e-mails regardizl,g the <br />matter and there was a statement in one of the papers that said that Council cou1d~ <br />donate their checks for this meal as it would look like they were giving checks to the <br />employees. He then said that City employees do not realize any of the perkS that <br />employees in the private sector do such as bonuses, Chris1:mas parties, profit sharing or <br />trips from vendors. <br /> <br />City Attorney Hoeft indicated that Council Members could refuse to accept their checks <br />and they would go into the general fund and the employee appreciation dinner is paid for <br />I <br />out of the general fund. <br /> <br />, <br />~~ .1 <br /> <br />..j <br />" <br /> <br />Mayor Sweeney indicated there was something in the local paper that said a municipality <br />used to take their checks and use them to purchase meals or a party for Staff. <br /> <br />" <br />r,,! <br /> <br />City Attorney Hoeft indicated that anyone could donate a check to the City ~~ the <br />money would be placed in the general fund. He then said that a person can specifY how <br />they want the funds used but the City is not obligated to do so but may want toifth~.City <br />wishes to continue receiving donations. He further said that the Council Members ~ot <br />designatC that the donation be used for the party but the money is put into the ge:rneral <br />fund and the general fund pays for the employee appreciation dinner. <br /> <br />Mayor Sweeney indicated this is the last time he will comment on this. He then said the <br />information printed in the two local papers has been so skewed and so inaccurate it ireads <br />more like something out of a tabloid. He further indicated he would not be making any <br />further comments and would be writing no more letters. <br /> <br />Council Member Lee told residents not to believe everything read in the newspapJr and <br />invited them to..watch on television or come to the Council meetings to see what actually <br />happens. ' <br /> <br />Council Member Paar encouraged residents to contact him directly any time they [ have <br />questions and encouraged residents to watch the meetings.
