<br />METROPOLIT AN COUNCIL <br />Mears Park Centre, 230 East Fifth Street, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55 101-1634 <br />Phone (651) 602-1000 TDD (651) 291-0904 FAX (651) 602-1550 Metro Info (651) 602-1888 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION No. 2002-10 <br /> <br />STATING THE METROPOLITAN COUNCIL'S COMMITMENTS REGARDING THE <br />ADOPTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF ITS BLUEPRINT 2030 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council is required by statute to prepare and adopt a comprehensive <br />development guide for the seven-county metropolitan area that prescribes guides for the orderly and <br />economical development, public and private, of the metropolitan area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the population of the seven-county metropolitan area is projected to increase by <br />nearly one million people by the year 2030 and the region can expect more than 460,000 new <br />households and approximately 550,000 new jobs during that same time period; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, during the twenty-five years since the Metropolitan Land Planning Act was enacted, <br />the Metropolitan Council has periodically updated and revised components of its comprehensive <br />development guide to address changing economic and demographic characteristics of the <br />metropolitan area and help local governmental units plan for and address matters of local and <br />regional significance as development and changes occur at the local level; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council's Blueprint 2030 is intended to provide a framework for <br />guiding the Metropolitan Council's own actions as a regional government as well as provide a <br />framework for planning work at the local level that may be necessary to address the projected <br />characteristics and needs of this metropolitan area during the foreseeable future; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, through its Blueprint 2030 work and other activities the Metropolitan Council will <br />work in partnership with local governmental units and other stakeholders as it plans for regional <br />services to accommodate the needs that will result from the growth and development of the <br />metropolitan area that are projected to occur during the next several years. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: <br /> <br />1. Commitments. For the purposes of informing the local governmental units and other <br />partners with which the Metropolitan Council will cooperatively work as it plans for and <br />provides regional services and performs regional planning functions, the Metropolitan <br />Council deems it appropriate to identify its commitments regarding the adoption and <br />implementation of its Blueprint 2030.
