'Ya;c (651) 429-8629 <br /> <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />COUNTY OF ANOKA <br />CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />RESOLUTION #03 - 014 <br />A RESOLUTION DECLARING MARCH FOODSHARE MONTH <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />CENTERVILLE, MINNESOTA: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, hunger exists in communities even in the best of economies; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, nearly half of hungry Minnesotans are children twelve years old and <br />younger; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the fastest growing groups of hungry Minnesotans are senior citizens and <br />people who are working; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the creeping effects of hunger in the life of an individual or family can <br />range from poor health and slowed recovery from injury and illness to poor performance <br />at school and at work; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the impact of this on lives and communities can be devastating; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, food shelves in Minnesota distribute about thirty million pounds of donated <br />and purchased food annually to ease the sting of hunger; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, due to the slowed economy, visits have increased dramatically at every <br />food shelf in the state this year, by an average of 10%; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Food Shelves that serve Centerville residents have also seen a <br />significant increase in need; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign is responsible for acquiring <br />about half the food distributed annually through food shelves; and <br />
