Refer to display signage to <br />help educate the customer. Be courteous. <br />-Remove the tobacco product from the <br />counter. A customer may try to grab the <br />product, leave money on the counter and <br />run out. If this happens, do not ring up the <br />sale. Notify your manager immediately for <br />further instructions. <br /> <br />it Be firm. If you have troubie finding the right <br />words, try one of these' suggestions: <br /> <br />-"No, I'm sorry, but I can't sell cigarettes to <br />you without a picture 10 to verify your age. <br />I could lose my job." <br />-"Nn I'm sorry, but I can't sell cigarettes to <br />anyone under 18-it's the law and I could <br />be fined up to $3,000." <br />-"No, I'm sorry, I can't accept any note. <br />They need to come in and buy their own <br />cigarettes." <br /> <br />. When an adult tries to purchase tobacco for <br />minors. If you suspect this is happening: <br /> <br />-Explain that you and the customer could <br />get in a lot of trouble if you make the sale. <br />-Be polite and informative. <br /> <br />II When parents send minors to purchase <br />tobacco products for them-if this happens: <br /> <br />-Explain that it's against the law for you to <br />sell tobacco products to minors. <br />-Hand the minor a tearsheet that explains <br />your store policy. <br />
