.,:'> '~

TO: Honorable Mayor and Council Members

FROM: Kim Stephan

SUBJECT: Economic Development Committee Recommendations

DATE: January 16, 2003

The Economic Development Committee made the following recommendation for
Council consideration at their Jar 18.1> 14,2003 committee meeting.

The Economic Development Committee invited Ms. Kimberlee Wilcox from Media
Junction to discuss updating and printing the Business Directory for 2003. In 2002 EDC
ordered 1,300 copies of tbe directory. Approximately 1,200 were mailed to residents,
leaving ] 00 for new residents and hnsinesses. Ms. Wilcox prepared an estimate based
on 1,500, 1,700 and 2,000 copies. Media Junction has upgraded their equipment with a
digital printer and can now do srE~lller runs with 4 colors, opposed to the previous
directory which was done in 2 colors. This will also decrease the cost. The businesses
will not have to pay to list their business, only to run an ad. The cost for the businesses in
2002 was $50.00 per ad and generated $1,150.00 which was applied to the cost of
printing the directories. The council, commission and committee members will have to
be updated, as will the businesses. Ms. Stephan will get this information to Ms. Wilcox.
Ms. Wilcox will contact the businesses to determine if they would like to place ads in the
2003 Business Directory. The estimate for 2,000 directories was $1,600. This amount
will be reduced by the amount generated in advertising, which should be similar to 2002
making the total cost to EDC approximately $500-$600.

Motion was made by Committee Member Rehbine, seconded by Committee
IVlember Backman, to recommend to council contracting with Media Junction to
update and print 2,000 copies of the 2003 Centerville Business Directory per the
proposed estimate, with the amount not to exceed $1,600. Advertising fees
generated will be applied to the cost of the directories, with Media Junction
responsible for contacting businesses. All in Favor: Motion carried unanimously.
