City of Centerville <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />January 8, 2003 <br /> <br />Council Member Capra stated she has no problem with Single Sort, her issue is with the <br />garbage in general. She indicated the Anoka dump was getting full and the question was <br />where to put it. <br /> <br />Mr. Boyum stated that Ramsey County had removed the tax on trash but were in the <br />process of adding it back on. He stated it would be 32 percent on residential trash and 54 <br />percent on commercial trash. He added that with Single Sort you reduce the amount of <br />trash you have and therefore reduce this taxable amount. W~ ~..~ <br /> <br />Council Member Capra asked if the trash currently goes t~laine. Mr. Boyum indicated <br />it did. <br /> <br />Council Member Broussard-Vickers stated the cost of living increase was fine, and she <br />had no opinion on how the City should take the rebate, however the Council had been <br />planning on reviewing the contract and the issues they have seen with collecting bad <br />debt. They have been trying to determine how this practice affects the City in real <br />dollars. She would like to review the information and discuss it next month. She feels <br />Single Sort is wonderful, however if joining the program depends on the contract, they <br />need more time to review it. <br /> <br /> <br />.;;. He has asked that the indicator be <br />removed. <br /> <br />Mayor Sweeney stated he liked the Single Sort program and IS okay with the rate <br />mcrease. <br /> <br />Council Member Broussard-Vickers asked if there was an advantage one way or another <br />to how the rebate was received. Ms. Moore-Sykes stated the City has never received one <br />before. Mayor Sweeney indicated his preference would be to receive the funds, to be <br />used first for Spring Clean-up and any remainder being added to City funds. <br /> <br />Motion by Council Member Broussard Vickers. seconded by Council Member <br />Capra to approve the CPI rate adiustment and request the Tip fee rebate as a check <br />to the City and to l!ather additional information before ioininl! the Sinl!le Sort <br />recyclinl! prOl!ram. <br /> <br />Mr. Boyum indicated Waste Management was ordering carts now. He stated they have <br />extra staff until spring, when they typically get busier, and would prefer delivery in the <br />first quarter so they do not have to hire temporary help to make the deliveries. <br /> <br />Mayor Sweeney stated Council needs to get up to speed on the contract.
