COUNTY OF ANOKA
CITY OF CENTERVILLE
WHEREAS, Mary Ann showed her political activism by devoting numerous hours of her personal time to
being trained to serve in the capacity of election judge and serving on election day(s) even though she balanced
her personal life of a husband, eight children, grandchildren and a gamut of other organizations that she devoted
her time to; and
WHEREAS, she served her community for 36 years; and
WHEREAS, she took pride in being prompt, working until the polls were closed and all ballots were counted,
well educated in the electoral processes and ensuring regulated methodologies were utilized in providing a fair
and legal voting process for candidates and residents alike; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann found the most pleasure in serving in the capacity of Ballot Judge handing residents
their ballot in exchange for a receipt, providing them with a secrecy cover and explaining voting procedures
associated with marking their ballots. She also found pleasure in the potlucks held by judges for their lunches
and dinners, tasting other's homemade treats and sharing recipes; and
WHEREAS, she also found pleasure in the interaction with residents and other election judges telling stories
and providing memories of her years of serving and changes that had been made throughout the years; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann desired to be an election judge for 2016, completed all required applications, was
appointed by the City of Centerville in July and was informed that she had cancer. She remained optimistic that
following surgery she would make a full recovery and have the ability to serve for the Primary Election. To her
surprise, she did not mend as anticipated and she remained hopeful that she would be able to serve for the
General Election; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 9, 2016; and
WHEREAS, to acknowledge Mary Ann's years of dedicated service.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Centerville will recognize Mrs. Mary Ann Thill
each second Tuesday of August (Primary Election Day) as Mrs. Mary Ann Thill Day and be reminded of her
selfless volunteerism and political activism.
Rest in peace Mary Ann and know that elections are being well overseen in your absence.
1 6V41X410 I R; r - +'- 1
,telStm
,:,...
City Clert, Teresa Bender
