I am following up that conversation to give you formal notice that the City's Building Official, Paul Palzer, has deemed that building a "hazardouC structure. This means the site needs to be made safe in order to protect public safety. Making this property safe also helps you of liability should someone hurt themselves inside that building. We understand that you are close to a potential redevelopment of the site - including removal of the building. However, Mr. Paizer was sufficiently concerned with the immediate dangers presented by the dilapidated state of that structure that he feels parts of it could collapse at any time. It is necessary to take immediate action to prevent collapse of the building, and to seal off access to the structure. This letter not only gives you notice of the hazardous nature of the structure, but it also begins a legal process whereby the City could remediate dangers or remove that building should Its condition continue to cause a safety risk.
