I told him
based on the information from our Public Works, CLPD, City Staff, and residents the building needs to
come down for safety reasons. I also mentioned that we are trying to attract business to Centerville and
that building does not aid in that. Rich argued that the building is still structurally safe and does not
purpose any hazards to the city. I told him we could go around and around on this, but we will just have
to disagree.
I mentioned that we have been lenient because on the him removing the building because he had plans
for development. I also mentioned that everything has fallen through, but Waterworks is still standing.
I stated that he received a letter in July 2016 that something needed to be done and nothing has
happened and that is why we are were we are.
Rich showed me plans for 11 executive homes on the site and he has plans to sell his home and build a
smaller home on the Waterworks site. He wants to wait to remove Waterworks until they start
excavating the land were the new lots/homes would go. He said he has talked with Rice Creek and
believes he has everything figured out, but is going to get in touch with them and Mike Ericson again. I
asked what his time frame was for this and he said by summer. I told him this would be a different story
if we saw development happening and progress being made, but the past 15 years we have seen
nothing. I told him everything has to go through P and Z and they meet monthly and with al the permits
etc, this could take a long time and council may not want to wait that long.
59
