Land Use Policies <br />W <br />J <br />0 <br />Z <br />cD <br />cG <br />G <br />0 <br />0 <br />W <br />J <br />0 <br />J <br />U <br />Z <br />D <br />0 <br />U <br />Economic Competitiveness <br />Foster connected land use options to provide businesses and industries with access to materials, <br />markets, and talent. <br />• Consider how local efforts to focus economic <br />development strategies along existing commercial <br />centers (historic downtowns or commercial <br />corridors) can contribute to the region's overall <br />economic competitiveness through enhanced <br />integration of local and regional planning efforts. <br />• Protect sites for highway-, river- and rail -dependent <br />manufacturing and freight transportation needs from <br />incompatible uses and identify local land supply and <br />transportation needs for effective use of those sites. <br />• Identify important multimodal intersections, <br />alternative freight routes, key intersections, and <br />other existing opportunities that may contribute to <br />local and regional economic competitiveness. <br />• Invest in regional amenities and services, including <br />transit, regional parks and trails, and bikeways to <br />support the Emerging Suburban Edge area as an <br />attractive place to locate and do business. <br />• Promote local planning around key intersections, <br />regional infrastructure, and business needs. <br />• Support the development of workforce housing to <br />provide nearby housing options for employees of <br />local employers. <br />• Convene interested partners to further strategies <br />towards increasing regional competitiveness and <br />include discussion of how Emerging Suburban Edge <br />communities can contribute to the region's overall <br />economic growth. <br />ALL COMMUNITIES <br />• Plan for the further development of and <br />intensification of existing and emerging <br />Job Concentrations. <br />• Consider completing a community-based market <br />analysis to better understand real estate needs for <br />commercial and industrial land. <br />• Consider addressing economic competitiveness in <br />the local comprehensive plan. <br />• Preserve sites for highway-, river-, and rail - <br />dependent manufacturing and freight transportation. <br />• Engage with businesses and other employers <br />to ensure their input is provided to the local <br />comprehensive plan. <br />• Prioritize regional investments that improve access <br />to national and international markets by regional and <br />state businesses. <br />• Ensure that regional growth is managed in efficient <br />ways that allow for a variety of choices in location <br />and transportation for businesses and residents. <br />• Support a variety of freight transport to better <br />connect the region with state, national, and <br />international markets. <br />• Support the cleanup of contaminated land for new <br />industry, including manufacturing and other sectors <br />kx that are export industries for the region. <br />• Promote the intensification of existing and emerging <br />Job Concentrations. <br />• Provide technical assistance to help local commu- <br />nities better understand their contributions to the <br />regional economy; provide information, research, <br />and analysis on economic competitiveness. <br />• Support cost-effective subregional infrastructure <br />investments in efforts to promote sustainable water <br />use and protect the region's water supplies. <br />• Support local and regional efforts to develop climate <br />change mitigation and adaptation strategies to <br />remain economically competitive. <br />9 <br />
