Centerville 2040 . <br /> • Protect environmental systems from unnecessary impacts of future growth <br /> and development activities. <br /> • Protect the surface waters, ground waters and wetland areas of the City to <br /> promote aesthetic qualities, natural habitat areas, ground water recharge <br /> and recreation opportunities. <br /> • Protect ground water purity by preventing erosion and improper discharge <br /> of sedimentation into ours local lakes and streams. <br /> • Maintain the valuable open space of the community. <br /> It is the policy of the City of Centerville to: <br /> • Carefully manage any development affecting floodplains, steep slopes, <br /> wetlands, and other environmentally sensitive areas. <br /> • Adopt and enforce wetland alteration and mitigation requirements <br /> consistent with the Wetlands Conservation Act**. <br /> • Enforce erosion and sedimentation control standards consistent with <br /> MPCA's ''best management practices.'' <br /> • Require that stormwater ponds meet the design standards of the National <br /> Urban Runoff Program (NURP) <br /> • Enforce shoreland management regulations along Centerville Lake, Peltier <br /> Lake, Clearwater Creek and County Ditch No. 47. <br /> • Establish landscaping requirements for all new residential and commercial <br /> developments that address the management of surface water run-off and <br /> other harmful side effects. <br /> • Give preference in surface water management systems design to surface <br /> drainage, vegetation, and infiltration rather than buried pipes and man- <br /> made materials and facilities. <br /> • Enforce surface water management regulations consistent with the Rice <br /> Creek Watershed District (RCWD) Plan and the RCWD Rules. <br /> Implement the City's Surface Water Pollution Prevention Plan SSWP-PP) and <br /> Surface Water Management Plan. <br /> • Coordinate with the Rice Creek Watershed District RCWD and D—r++ <br /> of Natural Resources DNR to identify im aired waterbodies and secure <br /> _qrant funding_to improve those im-paired waterbodies® <br /> It is the goal of the City of Centerville to: <br /> • Promote safe neighborhoods and low crime in the community. <br /> Chapter 2 1 Page 8 <br />
