8. Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner, providing information within the <br /> scope of knowledge or refers the inquiry to the Public Works Director or City <br /> Administrator. <br /> 9. Attends professional development workshops and conferences to keep current of trends <br /> and development associated with Public Works. <br /> DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES: <br /> 1. Knowledge of maintenance equipment, construction and repair methods and procedures <br /> for streets, water and sewer lines, catch basins, pumping stations and other city owned <br /> facilities. <br /> 2. Knowledge of safety standards and precautions related to the job and work-related <br /> duties. <br /> 3. Ability to use the equipment and tools of the trade. <br /> 4. Ability to read and write and comprehend the English language. <br /> 5. Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions. <br /> 6. Ability to work cooperatively with others and establish and maintain effective working <br /> relationships with other employees and the general public. <br /> 7. Ability to perform job duties in all weather conditions and in uncomfortable conditions. <br /> 8. Ability to sustain continuous physical effort, including frequent bending, walking, <br /> manipulation of and heavy lifting of equipment. <br /> 9. Ability to inspect, maintain and operate proficiently light and heavy equipment, such as <br /> loader, bobcat, dump truck and snow plow. <br /> 10. Ability to work independently. <br /> 11. Ability and willingness to respond to emergencies after hours and on weekends. <br /> MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: <br /> Education and Experience <br /> 1. Must possess a valid Class B CDL. <br /> 2. Must have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent. <br /> 3. One year's experience with public works functions, including streets, parks, water <br /> distribution, storm water and sanitary sewer collection systems. <br /> 28 <br />
