No matter which
hat he wears, his determination and leader-
ship qualities never vary. Tom's wife, Mary
Lou prides her husband on his method of
inspiring people, challenging them to use
their skills and the effective way he interacts
with people, not only in his professional
role, but also as a parent of their two
daughters.
Tom and Mary Lou first moved to Cen-
terville in 1967, living in a farm house that
had belonged to his uncle. Mary Lou, was
taken by the remoteness of the community
and not seeing any lights for miles as she
had been accustomed to, having grown up
in the "city". Approximately Soo residents
lived in Centerville at that time.
In 1969, the Wilharber's built the home
they currently live in, just north of the farm
which his parents had then purchased. Tom
worked full time for the National Guard, as
well as part-time loading trucks and provid-
ing accounting services for a personal friend
along with helping at his parents farm.
As the years went by, Tom became in-
volved with the Planning and Zoning Com-
mission, eventually becoming a City Coucil-
member in 1980 before accepting the role
of Centerville's Mayor in the Spring of 1995.
He was elected again to serve another two
years and is currently serving the City as
Mayor until the term expires December 3 I ,
2000. As for running for re-election, he
says that it's to early to say for sure if he'll

run again, but with his upcoming retirement
from the National Guard in October 2000,
he is considering the possibility. He would
like to continue an active role in the follow
through of projects that have already been
started, such as commercial development.
He believes that it is of great importance to
the community to have an equal balance
between commercial and industry develop-
ment. Wilharber would personally like to
see a high quality type of industry in the fu-
ture development, providing
WlIharber/see page 3

Tom Wilharber standing next to the beautiful statue of
an eagle, a gift from his wife and daughters. symboliz-
ing his strength and leadership.
