City olCenterville - Page 4.

TraIlS,
Parks & Lakes

Centerville is extremely fortu-
nate to. have the Chain of Lake$
Anoka County Park right next door.
In addition, plans for a new set of
tmils in the park match beautifully
with the Design Team vision.
. Design'.IeaJnyolunteer's recommen-
dations include: connect to theAnoka
Park trail system. to Lamotte Park
(short term goal), seek permission or
explore the possibility to extend the
trail through property north of
Lamotte Park, attempt to ensure a
connection to Wargo Nature Center,
connect to a possible trail through
Hugo (use Main Street and an ease-
ment area east of Lamotte Park),
attempt to provide a possible fishing
pier, provide a possible connection
between lakes,. take advantage of
grants for park equipment.

.Counly Road 14

An important fbiding of the
Design Team was that the next
logical step for the development of
County Road 14 (Main Street) is to
make it a busy 4 lane road. Some
consequences of this are that many
downtown buildings would have to
be destroyed because of the larger
width, it would tend to isolate the city
into a "north" and "south" CenterviIle
with busy traffic effectively dividing
the city, there would be even more
trucks and heavy traffic, and so on.
In a recent meeting with Anoka
County, it seems that there are no
immedi.ate plans to change County 14
into a 4 laneroad, but the future
is. uncertain as .traffic is bound to
increase. A simple easy solution to
County 14 traffic is not immediately
obviQUS.

..:.

Spring 1999

Design Team Visit Update...

Entrance 'I8sks
Jim MarCh, City Administrator, has been working on ideas for the gateway
into the city from the east. The current proposal ca1ls
for elimination of many roads in the park and construction in phases of trails, o~
of which would connect to Lamotte Park. Instead of six entJ:ances from Conn. ,I'
14, the new plan reduces it to three. The park will be undergoing a "redesign" for-.
the better. The park is designated a park preserve which ~ it.is to retain and
emphasize its natural resources. No more than 20% of the .park area is to be
developed. This park is one of the best neighbors Centerville could ever hope to have.
