' '.

LeDngton ~Polle.DepartmeDt

It's hard to believe that the holidays are upon us and another year has
come and gone. This is the time to reflect back on the previous year's
accomplishments.
-- We started 1 99TbytiamitigOfficer Ron Nelson as our 1996 Officer of
the Year. Ron's leadetship as an officer, union steward and his dedication
to the folks residing in Paul Revere has been admired by all.
I was very proud to be present at Breezy Point Resort in April where
the youth from our Police Explorer Post competed against over eighty posts
from across Minnesota. I was even prouder to see them walk away with
three trophies, inCluding one for first place. I have always believed that our
youth represent our future, and the members of the Circle Pines-Lexington
Police Explorer Post are the finest group of young adults that I've ever had
the privilege to work with.
It was an honor, just last week, to be present ~th Sergeant Makeia and
Community Service Officer, Cindy Elofson for the 1997 Safe and Sober
awards ceremony. Circle Pines-Lexington Police Department was heavily
. involved in community education efforts, enhanced training ()fQur officers
and enforcement efforts in occupant safety, drinking and driving and speed
enforcement throughout the year. The tremendous effort put into the Safe
and Sober Program by all of our staff was recognized by the State of
Minnesota. Circle Pines-Lexington Police received first place for our
program' and a $1,500.00 mini-grant that will be utilized to further our
public education and enforcement efforts.
During the upcoming holiday season I would like to remind everyone
to take a few precautions. Park in well lit areas of shopping malls and don't
be afraid at ask for an escort to' your vehicle. Don't leave your gifts in plain
view in your car - place them in the trunk or cover them to keep them out of
plain view. Leaving for the holidays? Ask your neighbor to keep an eye on
things 'and request a vacation check by calling the police department at 784-
2501. Install timers on interior lights while away. Keep an eye on weather
when traveling and by all means. - buckle up and drive safely!

Have a happy holiday season!

Chle& q}QflCButdzleo
