With the Ranger no longer being made, we looked at similar models, like the Chevy Colorado, or GMC Canyon. However,these vehicles are actually more expensive on the state bid than the half-ton models. The new one-ton pick-up would replace the 2005 3/4-Ton Chevy Silverado. The price difference to move from a 3/4-Ton pick-up to a 1-Ton was less than $1,800 and we believe the resale value will outweigh this difference. Given the low prices for these vehicles available to the city through the state bid, it is possible for us to resell these vehicles two years later,for at, or very near,the same price we initially paid. For this reason, staff recommends recommitting to this schedule of vehicle replacements. Delaying the turn- over of vehicles allows further depreciation of the trucks, resulting in a higher annualized cost of ownership. 25
