<br /> Subdivision 1. Definitions. For the purposes of this section:

<br /> (e) "'Trail" means a recreational trail that isfunded in whole orin part by state grants-
<br /> in-aid to a local urift of government.
<br /> § Subd.2. Authority of local government. (a).A local government unit that receives
<br /> state grants.-in-aid for any trail,with-the concurrenice of the corrunssioner, mid the
<br /> landowner or land lessee,may.
<br /> (1)designate the it for use by snowmobiles,or for nonmotorized use from
<br /> December I to April I of any year;and
<br /> (2)issue any permit required under subdivisions 3 to 5,
<br /> 03)A local government unit that receives state grants-in-aid under section..84.794,
<br /> subdivision 1.84.803,subdivision 2,or.84.927,subdivision 2,for any trail, with tile

<br /> snowshoeing, and hiking,and t'br multiple use; and
<br /> (2y:issue any permit required under subdivisions 3 to 5.
<br /> (c) ::local unit of government thatreceives.state grants-in-aid:for any trail,with.the
<br /> concurrence of the commissioner and landowner or land lessee,may designate certain
<br /> trails for.joint use by snownrobiles,off-highway.motorcycles, all-tarrain -vehicles , and
<br /> off-road vehicles .
<br /> (d)A local unit of goveturnent may not prohibit Or otherwise restrict operation of an
<br /> electric'-assistedbicycle,as defined in section 169.011,subdivision 27, on any trail under
<br /> this section.dcsignated:tor bicycle use or nonmotorized use that includes 1bicyclews,unless
<br /> [lie local unit of goverrunent determines that operation of the electric-assisted bicycle is
<br /> not consistent with(1)the safety or general welfarc of tTail users;or(2)the terms ofany
<br /> property conveyance,
<br /> S&d. 3.. Motorized use;permits,restrictions. Perrrrits may lbe issuedfar
<br /> tnotorized. vehicles ,other than those designated,to use a trail designated:for use by
<br /> snowmobiles,off-highway motoreyvIcs,all-terrain or off-road vehicles .Notice of the
<br /> pennit must 1be conspicuously posted,at the e�pense of the permit holder, at no less than
<br /> one-half mile intervals along the trail, for the duration of the permit. Permits shall require
<br /> that.permit holders return the trail and any as soci ated facility to their ariginal condition i r
<br /> any darnage is done by the permittee. Limited permits for special events such as races may
<br /> be issued mid shall require the removal of any trail markers,banners and other material
<br /> used in connection with the special event.
<br /> Subd.4. Norunotorized use trWIs. No motorized vehicle shall be operated on a
<br /> trail designated for norunotorized use.This subdivision does not apply to(1) motorized
<br /> wheelchairs or,other motorized devices operated by an individual who is physically
<br /> disabled;or(2)electric-assisted bicycles., as defined i n section :169.011,.subdivision 27.,
<br /> Subd. 5. Motorized vehicle traffs restricted. (a).From December I to April I in
<br /> arry year no use of a motorized -vehicle other titan a snowmobile,unless authorized by
<br /> permit,lease, or,easement,shall be.perrnittcd on a trail designated for use 1bysnowmabiles,
