Sediment would be disposed <br /> of at municipal solid waste landfills (MSW) facilities. <br /> Costs of dredging will vary, but several cities have sought to estimate their costs. The <br /> City of Minnetonka worked with Barr Engineering to develop a dredging cost equation. <br /> The equation does not include landfill disposal costs: <br /> Dredge Cost [2009 Dollars] = 78,515 x Volume 0.6727[AF] <br /> The above estimate uses 2009 dollars, so will need to be converted to present day <br /> dollars to account for inflation. The cost estimate for dredging is roughly $50/cubic yard. <br /> From an additional study for the City of Centerville conducted by Stantec in 2018, it was <br /> determined that there are roughly 35 acres of public ponds and almost one acre of rain <br /> gardens throughout the City. <br /> Even though this estimation provides a framework to understanding potential costs <br /> associated with dredging, exact costs are extremely difficult to predict. Costs will vary on <br /> aspects such as the amount of sediment that is classified as Level 3 (most <br /> contaminated), and the expense of treating at a MSW facility. Thus, it is difficult to <br /> predict how much dredging will cost. As a current member of the Minnesota Cities <br /> Stormwater Coalition (MCSC), the City will work closely with MCSC to determine <br /> appropriate measures for addressing stormwater pond and rain garden dredging, and to <br /> develop a plan moving forward. <br /> 2. Local Water Plan Updates: The City of Centerville should be prepared to update its <br /> Local Water Plan every ten years, and when necessary, make updates to goals and <br /> policies throughout the Plan. <br /> 34 <br /> 129 <br />
