9/12/2018 City of Savage designated a Purple Heart City I Savage Pacer I swnewsmedia.corn <br /> The city of Savage was declared a "Purple Heart City" on Monday — a designation honoring <br /> Purple Heart recipients. <br /> The Purple Heart is a United States Armed Forces decoration given to those wounded by an <br /> enemy force in combat, or given to the family of an armed forces member killed in the line of <br /> service. <br /> "Savage appreciates the sacrifices our Purple Heart recipients made in defending our freedoms <br /> and believe it is important that we acknowledge them for their courage and show them the <br /> honor and support they have earned," Savage Mayorjanet Williams said during a proclamation <br /> at a Savage City Council meeting. <br /> Members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 268 presented city officials with a <br /> reserved Purple Heart Recipient parking sign for the city hall parking lot and a certificate — <br /> thanking the city with a Members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Special Recognition <br /> Award. <br /> Since 1932, the organization has brought together combat veterans who've received the Purple <br /> Heart to work toward mutual interests and the protection of veterans.
