STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> COUNTY OF ANOKA <br /> CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br /> RESOLUTION#18- <br /> A RESOLUTION PROCLAMATION FOR THE CITY OF CENTERVILLE BEING A PURPLE <br /> HEART CITY <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Centerville in the state of Minnesota has great admiration and the utmost <br /> gratitude for all the men and women who have selflessly served or are currently serving our country in the <br /> Armed Forces; and <br /> WHEREAS, veterans have paid the high price of freedom by leaving their families, communities and <br /> placing themselves in harm's way for the good of all with some giving the ultimate sacrifice of their lives <br /> and others being wounded while engaged in combat with an enemy force; and <br /> WHEREAS, the contributions and sacrifices of men and women from Centerville and the general <br /> population who have served and are serving has and is vital in maintaining the freedoms and way of life <br /> enjoyed by our citizens and all Americans; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Purple Heart is the oldest military decoration in present use and was initially created as <br /> the Badge of Military Merit by General George Washington in 1782; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Purple Heart was the first American service award or decoration made available to the <br /> common soldier and is specifically awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces who have <br /> been wounded or paid the ultimate sacrifice in combat with a declared enemy of the United States of <br /> America; and <br /> WHEREAS, the mission of the Military Order of the Purple Heart is to foster an environment of <br /> goodwill among the combat-wounded veteran members and their families, promote patriotism, support <br /> legislative initiatives and most importantly—make sure we never forget; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Centerville appreciates the sacrifices of our Purple Heart recipients and their <br /> families for defending our freedoms and believe it is important that we acknowledge them for their <br /> courage and show them the honor and support they deserve and have earned; and <br /> WHEREAS, August 7 from this day forward will be officially designated as the day in Centerville to <br /> remember and recognize veterans who are recipients of the Purple Heart Medal; and <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> CENTERVILLE,MINNESOTA AND KNOWN TO ALL: <br /> That the City of Centerville hereby proclaims itself as a Purple Heart City honoring the service and <br /> sacrifice of our nation's men and women in uniform wounded or killed by the enemy while serving to <br /> protect the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans. <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City of Centerville this 10th day of October, 2018. <br /> Mayor, Jeff Paar <br /> Attest: <br /> City Clerk, Teresa Bender <br /> 27 <br />
