City of Centerville
Proposal for Preliminary Geotechnical Services
AET Proposal No. 01-20372
February 18, 2019
® Perform a limited laboratory testing program on selected soil samples taken from the borings.
® Prepare a Preliminary Geotechnical Report that includes logs of the borings, a map showing the
boring locations, the laboratory test results, general descriptions of the soil conditions and their
properties, apparent groundwater levels (if any), and our preliminary recommendations for the
following:
Grading of the building areas for structural support;with and without a basement level.
Compaction levels of fill soils for structural support.
Discussion about using on-site soils as structural fill.
Allowable soil bearing pressures that could be used for design of the building footings.
Estimated post-construction foundation settlements.
Support of the on-grade floor slabs, including the need for moisture/vapor membranes.
Soil types to be used as backfill against the below-grade walls (if any), and the need for drain
tiles.
Soil parameters for design of the below-grade walls(if any).
Grading of pavement subgrades for pavement support.
Bituminous pavement thickness designs.
Other information that is pertinent for project design, such as frost susceptibility of soils, drainage
considerations, and safe excavation slopes.
In addition to the above, we propose to install a temporary piezometer in one of the boreholes to more
accurately determine the groundwater level. Typically, it may take several days for the groundwater level
to stabilize in slow draining soils, such as those anticipated at this site. We propose to leave the
temporary piezometer in place for 3 to 5 days before removing it.
AET's services are provided for geotechnical purposes only. We understand that environmental sampling
and testing is not planned. Identification of any detected contamination will be based on human sight or
smell only. It is not the intent of these services to explore for the presence or vertical/horizontal extent of
potential contamination.
SCHEDULE
Based on our current drilling schedule, we estimate that we can begin our field services about 3 weeks
after receiving authorization to proceed. We expect to complete the soil borings in I working day. We
will; however, have to send the drill rig back to the site to remove the temporary piezometer and seal the
borehole. Logs of the borings and preliminary information should be available about I week after the
completion of the drilling. The preliminary report should be available about 2V2 to 3 weeks after
completion of the soil borings.
99
