City of Centerville
Council Meeting Minutes
July 10, 2019

amount of time and effort with the budget as it is an expenditure that all residents will be affected
by.

IX. NEW BUSINESS
1. None.

X. COUNCIL/ADMINISTRATOR ANNOUNCEMENTS

1. Administrator/Engineer Report

Administrator Statz stated that his report was contained in Council’s packet and he was available
to provide additional information if requested. He reported that Mr. Mike Brass, Titus Commercial
Real Estate, was the City’s broker for several parcels but not for 1695 and 1737 Main Street. He
stated that he has discussed brokerage with him regarding these parcel but Mr. Brass was slightly
hesitant to do so. He stated that he has spoken with several realtors regarding uses of vacant land
and retail sales sites (hardware store). He also stated that he believes the market will sell the sites
however, the sites are tough to develop on as they are only ½ acre sites. He stated that an option
for marketing may be entrusted to the EDA if Council was comfortable with that. Council Member
Lakso who is a member of the EDA stated that a web site for the EDA could be utilized for this.
Mayor Paar stated that facebook, twitter and forwarding information about the site may also assist
in the selling of the property.

Council Member Lakso questioned the impact that the builder, TJB, removing himself from the
Bayview Villas development has on the City and Administrator Statz stated none and that he
anticipated that the Developers would find another builder shortly.

Council Member Lakso requested that under Updates on the Agenda it includes special meetings
and meetings that took place so that items that were discussed at these meetings were not forgotten.

Council Member Love stated that he had attended the League’s annual conference where he
learned that others communities share the same struggles with growing and bringing in businesses.
He stated that one community purchased a hotel that was blighted, fixed it up and sold it. Which
benefited the community and Council may desire to consider the EDA marketing the land that
Administrator Statz was speaking of as there would not be expenditures associated with it.

Mayor Paar requested that the item of EDA marketing property and potentially purchasing blighted
properties be place on an upcoming agenda.

Council Member Koski stated that he had attended the recent Planning and Zoning Commission
meeting where discussion took place regarding driveways, parking of vehicles and outside storage.
Council Member Koski questioned complaints that were referred to in the Administrator’s report
and how they came about. Administrator Statz stated that they are complaint driven and the City
does not actively look for violations. Council Member Koski stated that the Centennial Fire
District Steering Committee meeting would be taking place on July 25, 2019 where budget
discussions will be held.
