<br />Fee Assistance <br />Offering deferrals, discounts or forgiveness of licensing fees or bills for businesses impacted by COVID-19 <br />reopened, since many of them will be experiencing a loss in revenue for many months to come. <br /> <br /> <br />Code/Ordinance Review <br />Review local ordinances and codes to ensure local regulations are not creating additional costs or over- <br />regulation during this difficult time for businesses and in the years to come. If you community has <br />declared a state of emergency, you can adopt emergency ordinances as well. <br /> <br /> <br />Real Estate <br />Retail & Commercial Property Owners <br />Many of your commercial and retail property owners are struggling as they are not receiving lease <br />payments from their tenants. If the real estate owner can be considered a small business, encourage <br />them to apply for the DEED programs or SBA fundingto help their real estate business. <br /> <br />Tele-work Effect on Businesses <br />After all businesses are phased to re-open, it is anticipated that an increased number of businesses will <br />keep employees working from home for an extended or indefinite amount of time. Those are the <br />businesses that are most at-risk of relocation and leaving building vacancies behind. Ensure to continue <br />regular communication with your business owners in all industries. <br /> <br />Hotel or Large Business Vacancies/Closures <br />In the event large properties such as hotels or large retailers do not recover from this crisis, start the <br />conversation early with elected officials on what adaptive reuses they would like to see in those buildings. <br />Be prepared to amend zoning districts or rezone for possible new reuses or redevelopment. This will help <br />your community be prepared for reinvestment faster than others. <br />We Are In This Together <br />COVID-19 will pass and when it does, it is important for us to continue s <br />yet understand what the full economic impact of this will be, but we do know that we are strong as a <br />community that supports one another.
