CITY OF CENTERVILLE REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: May 27, 2020 Administration VIII.2 TITLE OF ISSUE: Resolution Authorizing an Increase in Storm Water Fees BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: The attached memo recaps the discussion held in February. Staff is recommending that a 5% increase be implemented this year. We know that our reserves will be significantly lower because or the downtown storm water construction and the expansion of the irrigation system. By adopting a 5% increase, we are on a path to covering the full costs of pond and ditch maintenance while also being able to better assist with backyard drainage issues throughout the community. Granted that some of the costs are speculative, but the 5% increase now may have the effect of lower later increases from either the 5% or 4% level if our needs turn out to be less than currently projected. COST AND SOURCE(S) OF FUNDING: Storm Water utility bills. REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: Staff recommends that the City Council make a motion to approve the Resolution Authorizing an Increase in Storm Water Fees as presented.
