CITY OF CENTERVILLE REQUEST FOR ACTION Agenda Item # Department: RequestedMeetingDate: June 11, 2020 EDA VIII.3 TITLE OF ISSUE: Resolution #EDA 20-05 Establishing a Newspaper Advertising Campaign to Support Local Businesses BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: The publisher of The Quad Community Press and The Citizen has offered a two for one deal, of sorts, on advertisements in their papers. Previously, the committee decided not to pursue investments in newspaper advertisements, but with the improved value offered here, there may be reason to reconsider. Staff is suggesting one of two scenarios: - Two week run of half-page ads featuring generalized "Shop Local" theme. Larger ad could draw more attention, but may not help individual businesses. (EDA Cost - $871; one 1/2 pg ad, two consecutive wks) - Weekly smaller ads (2"x3") featuring recent "CenterStage" businesses. The art work would have already been produced, making it an easy endeavor. (EDA Cost $112/wk for two ads/wk) COST AND SOURCE(S) OF FUNDING: See attached rate sheet for more cost information.
